Academia occasionally offers promotional discounts for Premium subscriptions and special student pricing. Discounted memberships give users full access to Academia Premium benefits, such as Mentions, Readers, and the ability to create a beautiful personal website.
Who is eligible for a discount?
You might be eligible for a discount if we offer you a promotional discount, or if you are a student or graduate. Academia does not offer discount codes.
Promotional discount
Promotional discounts are limited-time discounts offered during campaigns (like seasonal promotions). If a promo is available to you, you'll usually see it:
- in an email from Academia, or
- on the Premium upgrade page while the promotion is active.
Student/grad student discount
A student discount may be available if you've added a student or graduate student affiliation to your Academia profile.
How do I get a discount?
Promo discount
- Open the promotional email or on-site promotion.
- Click the promotional link to the upgrade page.
- Complete your upgrade.
If you didn't get the promo discount, try these steps:
- Check the account you’re logged into. If you clicked the promo link while logged into a different account (or not logged in), the offer may not apply.
- Confirm the campaign is still active. Some promos end expire or may not apply to every account.
- You might have already redeemed a promo. If you received a discount for Academia recently, you may not be eligible for another discount.
Student discount
- Make sure your primary affiliation on Academia.edu is set to either "Graduate" or "Undergraduate" student. Learn how to add or edit your affiliation
- Go to the checkout page: https://www.academia.edu/checkout
- At the top of the page, click the small triangle (▼) next to the default subscription plan to open the plan dropdown.
- If you’re eligible, you’ll see a discounted student plan listed there. Select the discount to redeem it.
If you don’t see a discount:
- Double-check that your student affiliation is your primary affiliation (not secondary).
- Refresh checkout and open the plan dropdown again.

- the upgrade page pricing you’re seeing.
How long does the discount last?
Promo discounts typically last one year, and then your subscription renews at the regular price shown at renewal time.
Student discount subscriptions typically keep the discounted price year to year as long as you remain eligible.
How long does the discount apply for?
Discount campaigns, such as New Years and Back to School discounts, apply for one year, and renew at the regular sign-up price. Student discount subscriptions keep their discounted cost year to year as long as you remain eligible.
Can discounts be combined?
Academia does not use discount codes, and discounts typically do not stack. If more than one discount is available, you’ll generally receive only one discounted price at checkout.
