If your account is connected to Google sign-in, Academia.edu may use that connection to help you find people you know who are already on the platform. As a result, your account can automatically follow those people.
How to stop auto-following
1) Disconnect Google sign-in
Disconnecting Google sign-in stops future automatic following from that network.
- Log in to Academia.edu.
- Go to your account settings.
- Find Connected accounts (or Social sign-in).
- Disconnect Google.
2) Unfollow anyone you don’t want to follow
If you want to remove people you’re currently following, you can unfollow them at any time.
What else happens when I connect my Google account?
Connecting Google sign-in is used for sign-in and finding people you know on Academia.edu. It does not post on your behalf or make your Google account visible to anyone else.
