This troubleshooting article will try to help you get your document or paper uploaded and previewing correctly on Academia.edu by going through different scenarios.
Take a look at the following paper uploading requirements before you begin:
- Check the size of your files. Files must be 100MB or less.
- Ensure your file is an accepted file format. Try converting your file to a format compatible with Academia.
- Remove any passwords or encryption from your file(s). Password-protected or encrypted files prevent Academia from converting your document.
Problem 1: My upload finishes, but the preview is incorrect, different, or stuck converting.
- Solution 1: Re-save the file on your computer or device, then upload your new file by updating your attachment. Learn how to re-upload your paper attachment.
- Solution 2: If the name of the file you are uploading has any non-letter characters (such as apostrophes, dashes, or colons), try removing those. For non-Latin characters (such as ñ, ł, or ö), convert those to the closest English equivalent. Save your changes and re-upload your paper attachment.
- Solution 3: Contact us and include a link to the paper that won't preview correctly.
Problem 2: My upload gets to 100% and then stops.
- Solution 1: Close the browser window and re-upload the document.
- Solution 2: Upload your file from a different browser. If that solves the issue, please report the problem to us and mention which browser didn't work.
- Solution 3: Shorten the file name. We may be unable to upload your document if the file name is too long. Aim for less than 200 characters.
- Solution 4: Compress your file or remove unnecessary images to make it smaller, if possible.
- Solution 5: If you're uploading your paper from outside of the United States or Canada and you have access to a VPN or other region-changing software, try changing your location to the United States or Canada.
Problem 3: My upload goes through, but I see a previewing error.
- Solution: Retry the conversion. Sometimes the problem is just a technical hiccup and re-uploading your attachment will solve the issue. Learn how to re-upload your paper attachment.
