Your Personal Website gives you a public, customizable place to share your research, profile details, and contact information outside your main Academia.edu profile.
Your website is built from your Academia.edu profile, so many updates happen automatically when you edit your profile information. You can also manage website-specific options from your Personal Website settings.
What does a Personal Website look like?
Your Personal Website displays information from your profile in a clean, highly polished format. Your website’s Home page, for example, will display the following from your profile:
- Profile photo
- Display name
- Biography, research interests, and affiliations
This is the first page visitors will see when they enter your website. Your Personal Website also includes tabs for your Research, CV, and Contact information.
Your Personal Website stays connected to your Academia.edu profile. When you update your profile, those changes appear on your Personal Website automatically. In the example below, Richard’s profile information matches the details shown on his Personal Website Home page.
What’s included with a Personal Website?
A Personal Website includes:
- A contact form people can use to get in touch with you
- Visitors can download your papers without creating an Academia account
- A personalized website URL
- A standalone space for sharing your research and academic background
- A customizable cover photo
Your Personal Website uses information from both your Academia.edu profile and your Personal Website settings.
Manage your Personal Website
After your Personal Website is set up, you can update the information visitors see, customize your website settings, and preview your site before sharing it.

Update information from your Academia.edu profile
Most of the information on your Personal Website comes from your Academia.edu profile. To update what visitors see, edit the related part of your profile:
- Update your profile photo or display name on your Academia.edu profile.
- Edit your biography. This is also a good place to mention awards, scholarships, or other academic achievements.
- Add or update your affiliations so visitors know where you’ve studied or worked, and what you’re doing now.
- If you want to add more papers, books, or other publications, upload them to Academia.
- Update your social profile settings so academics can find other ways to connect with you or see your work.
Customize your website settings
Some parts of your Personal Website are managed separately from your main profile. In your Personal Website settings, you can:
- Add a new cover photo.
- Find or update your Personal Website URL.
- Turn your Personal Website on or off to control whether it’s visible to visitors.
Preview your website
If you have a Premium subscription, you can preview your Personal Website before sharing it.
