Adding an attachment (your paper’s full-text file) makes your work readable and downloadable on Academia. You can use the steps below to add a new attachment, replace an existing attachment with an updated version (for example, to fix typos or add missing pages), or delete an attachment you no longer want on a paper.
Editing the attachment does not change your paper page details (title, abstract, co-authors, publication details) or your stats.
What’s an attachment?
In Academia, your paper has two parts: the paper page and the attachment:
- The paper page includes the title, abstract, co-authors, and publication details, like the journal name or publishing date.
- The attachment is the full-text file you upload for your paper, like a PDF or Word document. It is the version of your work that people can view or download from your paper page.
What can I attach?
You can attach any works you've authored that are relevant to the paper. This can be a research paper, book, or project (but not strictly those three things). See what file types are supported.
Edit the attachment (full-text file) for your paper
- Go to your profile.
- Click Edit under the title of the paper.
- Add or delete your attachment:
- Click Choose Files to add an attachment to this paper.
- Click the little trash can icon next to the attachment you wish to delete.
- Click Save.

I see “This document is being converted.” Where is my upload?
This is a regular part of the upload process. We need to make your document compatible for viewing on the web. This message usually goes away in 10 to 20 minutes, but it can take up to 24 hours.
If you cannot read the paper after 24 hours, try re-uploading your attachment.
My paper says “Loading Preview...” forever.
This message usually goes away in 10 to 20 minutes. If it still does not load, re-upload your attachment and delete the old attachment.
