Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have a way to merge papers. This includes duplicate papers on one account, or transferring papers from duplicate accounts and merging data. We apologize for this inconvenience, and we hope to have a feature to merge papers in the future.
This is a feature that we would like to have in the future, but it is not yet ready. This includes transferring paper data, co-authors, analytics, views, downloads, or any other paper information.
What you can do
- Keep both papers listed: You can choose to keep both papers until the merge function is available, which preserves the analytics around each paper.
- Delete one copy: Alternatively, you can choose to delete one of the two copies of the paper, which will then delete the analytics surrounding that copy of the paper.
Which copy should I keep?
If you're having trouble deciding which paper you should keep, and which one to delete, we recommend you keep the copy with:
- More views
- More complete metadata and abstract
- The most accurate co-author list
- More engagement (discussions, posts, recommendations, etc.)
- More hits according to your analytics page
If you're unsure which duplicate to keep, or you're concerned you'll delete the wrong paper, please contact our support team for guidance.
What happens to co-authors?
When you delete a paper, any co-authors listed on that paper will no longer see it on their profile.
Related questions
Why can't I delete a paper?
Most paper modifications, including deleting a paper, can only be performed by the paper owner and uploader. Contact the owner for help modifying your paper.
Will my citations be affected?
Citations are typically linked to the specific paper entry. If you delete a paper that has been cited, those citation links may break. Keep the copy that has been cited or shared most frequently.
What about papers with multiple co-authors?
If you delete a paper with co-authors, it will be removed from all co-authors' profiles as well. Make sure to coordinate with your co-authors before deleting a shared paper.
Can I transfer analytics from one duplicate to another?
No, at this time we cannot transfer analytics between duplicate papers. This is why we recommend keeping the copy with the most analytics if you decide to delete one.
