Percentiles show how your profile or paper’s views compare with similar members on Academia over the last 30 days. When you have a top percentile, this means you’ve achieved more views than most people on Academia.
A percentile is a ranking from 0 to 100, so a Top 1% means your view count is higher than 99% of members (or papers).
How top percentiles work
- Percentiles are based on views counted in the last 30 days.
- Your percentile can go up or down as your view count changes and as other profiles and papers get more or fewer views.
- Profile percentiles and paper percentiles are calculated separately.
Where to find your percentile
Find your profile percentile
- Go to your profile.
- Look for Public views (profile views) on the left side of the page.
- Your percentile appears near your view count (for example, Top 0.1%).
Find a paper percentile
- Open the paper on Academia.
- Find the Views for that paper below the title and abstract.
- Your paper percentile appears next to the paper’s view count (for example, Top 0.1%).
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a view?
A view is counted when someone loads your profile or paper page on Academia.
Why did my top percentile change?
Your percentile is recalculated based on the last 30 days of views. It can change when your views change or when other profiles or papers get more or fewer views.
Why is my percentile missing?
This can happen for two reasons:
- Your ranking has recently changed and does not meet the 5% threshold.
- There is not enough recent view data to calculate a percentile. Check back later after your profile or paper has more views.
Why do my paper and profile percentiles differ?
They measure different things. Profile percentiles compare profile views across members, while paper percentiles compare a paper’s views across papers.
Why do some profiles or papers have percentiles and I don't?
Percentiles are calculated from recent data against similar members on Academia. While you might have more views overall than someone else on Academia, they may have more recent activity on their profile, or they could have different interests from you, making you both incomparable.
Remember: views are counted from the last 30 days, not all time.
