Academia lets you add, remove, and rearrange your co-authors, and even invite them to Academia. As a co-author of a paper, you'll share all of the citation and analytical details about a paper, and papers you've co-authored will appear on your profile.
- Co-authors share paper analytics, including downloads and document views — the links on the profiles of all co-authors go to the same paper.
- Co-authored paper information only has to be entered once by one person.
- Co-authored papers have increased exposure, as they are shown to the followers of all the co-authors on the work.
Add a co-author
You can add co-authors to your papers during the upload process or after a paper has been uploaded. To add or remove co-authors to a paper you've already uploaded:
- Go to your profile.
- Click Edit under the paper you'd like to change the co-authors on. This will take you to the edit page for your paper.
-
Enter the name of your co-author. A drop-down menu will appear with Academia accounts matching the name you enter.
- Select their name from the list and click Save Changes.
If the person you're looking for doesn't appear, you may have to invite them to Academia. Co-authors must have an Academia account to be added as a co-author.
Invite a co-author
You can invite your co-author from the paper editing page:
- In the Co-Authors box, write their full name.
- Click Add Co-Author.
-
Enter their email address. This is so we can send them an invitation to join Academia as your co-author.
- Click Add to finish sending your invitation.
Remove a co-author
If you would like to remove a co-author, click the "X" next to their name. Click Save Changes when you're done.
Rearrange co-authors
Co-authors can be also be set to appear in the same order as they appear on the publication. To re-arrange co-authors, click and drag the names into the appropriate order. Once you're done arranging your co-authors, click "Save Changes" in the top right-hand corner.
Troubleshooting
I get a "Something went wrong!" error message.
Try restarting your browser, using a different browser, or restarting your computer. If that still doesn't work, let us know. Include your profile URL in your support request.
I don't see an "X" next to a co-author I want to remove!
Tell our Support team by providing the paper URL and the name of the Academia.edu user you would like to remove.
I added co-authors to my work, but they aren't showing up!
Adding co-authors is a two-step process. First, they have to be added to your paper as described above. Then, your co-authors have to confirm their co-authorship. This confirmation prevents people from adding you to papers without your knowledge.
In the event you invited your co-author to Academia, they will receive an email invitation to create an account. Only after creating their account will they be able to accept co-authorship. You may wish to reach out to your co-authors and ask them to log in and confirm.
I am a co-author but I don't want create an account!
