When you upload a document to Academia, our system needs to process and convert it so it can be displayed properly on the website. During this time, you'll see a "Converting" message on your paper, like the one in the image below.
Conversion is usually quick! Most documents are converted within 10-20 minutes, though the process can take up to 24 hours depending on file size and format. If you still see this message 24 hours after you've uploaded your paper, try saving a duplicate copy of your paper, then re-upload your paper by modifying the paper's attachment.
If it's been more than 24 hours, please review our upload troubleshooting guide.
PDFs typically convert more effectively and quickly than other file formats. If you're experiencing delays, consider converting your document to PDF before uploading.

Troubleshooting
If your document has been converting for an extended period of time, you can try these steps before waiting the full 24 hours:
- Ensure your file is a supported format. PDF is recommended for best results.
- Make sure your file isn't corrupted by opening it on your computer before uploading.
- Try a different browser to rule out issues with your browser's settings, extensions, or memory.
