Academia will invite people to your Discussion for you when you create a Discussion, but you can continue to invite more people while the discussion is active.
- People who have accepted your invitation will appear in the "Participants" list in the right panel next to your paper.
- Click the People
icon to view more participants or people requesting to join.
- When several people have joined your Discussion, the People icon turns into a number badge (for example, +2).
How to invite more people
Share a link
- Open your Discussion.
- Below the participants list, click the link.
- Copy the link to your clipboard.
- Send the link to the person you want to invite.
Make a Facebook or Twitter post
- Open your Discussion.
- Under the participants list, select Facebook
or Twitter
.
- Follow the prompts to post.
Review and approve join requests
If someone you do not follow wants to join, they may need to request access.
- Open your Discussion.
- Select the People icon.
- Select Pending.
- Approve or deny each request.
People who have accepted your invitation or participants you've approved will appear in the Attendees list.
📝 Note: Mutual followers (people you follow who follow you back) can join your Discussion without needing approval.
Who can see my Discussions?
- Direct invites: Via a link or notification.
- Followers: Appear in their newsfeeds.
- Mutual followers: Able to join without prior approval required.
- Anyone else: Must request access.
Can I make a private Discussion?
Due to the nature of the invite system, Discussions can't be private. Academia does not have invite-only, private, or hidden Discussions.
