Why do I get this error when I try to change my email address in my account settings?
There were some problems saving your changes: This email address has been taken. Do you already have an account?
What this means is that at some point, you created an account associated with the email address you're trying to put on your current Academia account. There are a couple of steps that you can take to resolve this issue.
First of all, you can try to access this account by logging in with the email address you're trying to use. If you don't know what password is with that account, you can reset it. If our system says there is no Academia account with that email address, try logging in with our "Log in with Facebook" or "Log in with Google" buttons on our login screen. If you're offered to put in Facebook or Google credentials, it's probably not that either. Shoot us an email with the URL of the profile you want to have the email address, and the email address you want to use, and we'll see what else we can do.
If you can access that account, you can either choose to use that account with the email address you'd like to view Academia, or you can delete that account, and then put your email address on your original Academia account. If you're concerned you might delete the wrong account, contact us and we'll safely delete your accounts for you.
