Not satisfied with your Academia Premium subscription?
We offer a 30-day no-questions-asked refund guarantee for new trials and your first year payment for your Academia Premium subscription. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a refund guarantee through any payments purchased through an Apple iOS in-app subscription or any additional subscription payments. We are also not able to process any refunds on payments which have formally disputed with a bank or payment processor.
Cancelling your Subscription
If you would like to cancel the auto-renewal on your subscription to Academia Premium, head to your account settings by clicking on your name, profile photo, or profile silhouette in the top right-hand or left-hand corner and selecting "Account settings." You can also head to your account settings by clicking here: www.academia.edu/settings
Then, click "Premium Subscription" on the left-hand sidebar.
To stop auto-renew, click "Cancel Auto-Renew".
We'll offer you the option to stay subscribed, if you haven't fully explored our Academia Premium features or are reconsidering your cancellation.
Scroll to the bottom to select "Continue to Cancel" if you wish to continue your subscription.
In some cases, you may see an option to continue on with an active Academia Premium subscription at your next billing for 50% off. This does not refund your active Academia Premium subscription or refund you for your current Academia Premium subscription - it is for your next billing only.
If you still do not want to be billed again, select "Continue to cancel."
We'll ask you why you've decided to cancel your renewal of your Academia Premium subscription. You will see this switch to a "cancelling" scroll wheel.
Do not leave the page until your cancellation survey appears! Please fill out a brief survey about why you no longer wish to be billed again.
Please be aware that cancelling auto-renew for your subscription does not mean that your subscription is entirely cancelled, that you will be refunded, or your benefits will come to an end.
For almost all users, after unsubscribing, you will maintain your Academia Premium benefits for the remainder of your current subscription period and won't be charged again. This will not refund you. What this means is that you will not be billed again, and your Academia Premium benefits will come to the end at the conclusion of your current subscription duration. We'll take you back to your home feed with a smaller banner indicating your successful cancellation of auto-renew.
For users who have signed up with Paypal for our low-cost trial, cancelling your low-cost trial subscription will end your subscription benefits at that time and immediately process a refund back to your account.
Trial payments and first-year subscription payments are eligible for refunds. You can see whether your most recent payment was a trial or first year payments by reviewing how many payments you have made on the same date for each subsequent year. You can also contact us to learn if your most recent payment was eligible for a refund.
If your payment is refund-eligible, head back to your Academia Premium settings, then simply click the "here" on click here to be taken to page where you can generate your refund request. If you don't see this "click here" box on your Premium Subscriptions settings page, click here to contact us.
You should receive an automatic response to the email address you placed in the email address box indicating your message has been received. If you do not receive this automatic response within 10 minutes, please submit another ticket! If you do not receive this automatic response, your refund request will not be valid.
Additionally, it is important to note deleting your account does not automatically generate a refund for your payment.You still need to contact us within 30 days and be requesting a refund for a refund-eligible payment.
For Refund-Eligible Subscriptions
Please click here to contact us and select "Billing, Payment, & Subscription Assistance." If you know it, include the email address associated with your Academia account or where you received your "Welcome to Academia Premium" email. For fastest processing, provide the following information:

If you paid with credit card: the last 4 digits of the card, the date of the payment, and the amount of the payment.

If you paid with Paypal: your Academia email address, or your Paypal email address.
- The date the payment was made.
- If you upgraded through our app and created an in-app subscription purchase, Apple is the only company who can process a refund for your subscription. This is a limitation imposed by us by Apple, so unfortunately we are not able to step around it. For in-app subscription refunds, start here.
