How do I reach out to an Academia.edu user?
Some Academia users include their email on their profile page. If they do not, you can still reach these users by sending them a private message on Academia.edu. You can do this by going to their profile and clicking the "Message" button.
How will I know when I get a message?
When you click your name in the top right-hand corner, you'll see a small "1" appear next to "Messages." Your notifications, which you can also see by clicking your name in the top right-hand corner, will also increment.
How do I check my messages?
Click your name in the top right-hand corner, then select "My Messages."
Here, you can see all past conversations you've been in. You can also use your message inbox to flag suspicious messages or delete messages you no longer want. You can also view your message inbox by clicking here.
The current active message (the one that you're reading) will be indicated by a blue line across the left-hand side of the profile picture of the person you're talking to.
New messages will have a gray background on the left-hand sidebar. Once you view a message, the left-hand background on the sidebar will become white.
If you're having a conversation in a message, you'll see a "New Message" text with a red line a appear. You'll also see a "New Message" bar in any messages you haven't read in that particular message thread.
If you see a message you think is spammy or inappropriate, you can report it by clicking the small flag next to the name of the user who sent the message.
If you want to delete the message, you can click the trash can to delete it.
