What is Advanced Search?

Last Updated: Oct 26, 2017 05:29PM PDT
Academia offers a wide variety of searching options as part of our basic Academia package. We generally suggest searching by research interest, but you can also try our title search, or searching for specific profiles or researchers. However, if you're looking for a more incredible search options or want to search for a very specific paper or subject, you might want to try upgrading to Academia Premium to try our advanced search feature.

With advanced search, you'll be able to search the full text of the more than 15 million documents on the site.

In order to do an advanced search, sign up for Academia Premium. Then, click "Advanced" to access our advanced search feature.

Here, you can:

- Search for individual phases in the full text of the collection of 50,000 documents using the "Keywords" box.

- Narrow down your search for research interests down by adding more interests. For example, if you're interested in reading papers contrasting two different philosophies, you could search for only papers that include the research interests "utilitarianism"  and "deontology," rather than having to filter through all of the utilitarianism papers, or all of the deontology papers.

- Filter by university or position. If you only want to read papers written by people associated with Harvard University, or only by emeriti, this is the place to do it.

You can mix and match all of these to give yourself a narrower group of search results, or return results that will be more relevant.

We'll search the full text of all 18 million papers that we have on the site for papers that match your parameters. Then, you can search the papers that we've found, or you can click the "authors" button to see the authors of the papers to forge new connections and research opportunities.

If your search doesn't provide the results you'd like, or you've finished searching for one specific topic, you can always edit your search or start a new search with our "Edit/Clear" options next to the search parameters of your current search.
